Neon Sign Photoshop Tutorial

In this Photoshop tutorial you will learn how to easily create your very own neon sign with a few easy steps.

To begin, we will create a new Photoshop document and use a brick style pattern for the background. You can use the example image below or something similar.

Once you have your pattern selected, lower the brightness of the layer, similar to the example below.

Now, you can either import a logo or create a custom text layer. In this example I have used text. Be sure to duplicate this layer because we will need an extra copy.

If you are using a text layer go to Layer->Rasterize->Type. Now in your menu go Filter->Blur-Gaussian Blur and select a Radius of 3 or something close to that, your document should look close to the image below.

Next we will want to add a few layer styles to your text or logo. Right click on the current layer and select Blending Options. First we will want to apply a drop shadow effect. Use the image below as a reference.

Next we will add an inner shadow. Use the image below as a guide and make sure you select Color Burn for your blend mode.

We’re just about there! Now lets add an outer glow. Use Color Dodge as your blend mode, 75% opacity, size of 230 and a range of 45% just like what’s shown below.

One more to go, add a bevel and emboss effect with the following dimensions.

Click “OK” in the dialog box. Now, duplicate this layer to add to the effect. Your image should look something similar to the one below. I added an extra line of text, which of course you can too and just follow the steps above to add the same type of effect.

Feel free to test out different backgrounds and colors and have fun with your creative side!
